FAQs
Why Give? Where Does the Money Go?
The MBA Class Gift is donated to The Wharton Fund, Wharton's unrestricted giving arm. Your gift goes towards supporting 2401 and the SSF campus, providing financial aid fellowships for Leadership Ventures, funding GSR renovations, and supporting initiatives like Executive Coaching and Student Life (1Y Olympics, 1Y Dinners, etc.), While other gifts to the school tend to be restricted to specific programs, The Wharton Fund can be used wherever we currently need it most. The more of us who participate in the Class Gift, the more financial aid we can give, the more affordable GIPs and GMCs will be, and the better Wharton will become for future generations.
Wait, But We Already Paid Tuition and It Was $$$!
We hear you. And we want to make it so anyone in the future can attend Wharton, regardless of his or her financial situation. Right now, our tuition covers only half of our Wharton experience. The other half is supported by The Wharton Fund. To keep Wharton at the top of the business school rankings, we need to keep on providing the best opportunities and experiences (think: SSF, Ventures, thriving Student Life, etc.). All of this takes more money that our tuition covers, so it's important that Wharton has a strong endowment. The better Wharton's offerings, the stronger our brand. The stronger the Wharton brand, the more valuable our degree, network, and connections will become.
How Much Do I Need to Give? Do People Actually Participate in Class Gift?
Yes! 8 in 10 MBAs from M7 schools participate in their school's Class Gift. Wharton Executive MBAs are going on their 10th year of 100% giving.
Our goal is for 100% participation. Last year's average gift was $55, although there is no minimum donation.
