Castleman disease (CD) is a rare inflammatory disorder that occurs in people of all ages. It causes hyper-activation of the immune system which often results in multiple-organ dysfunction, leading to death within 3-10 years of diagnosis.
Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) is applying an innovative approach to accelerate CD research, treatment, and patient care through global collaboration, strategic investments in research, and supportive resources for patients and their loved ones.

NEW Ways to Participate in the Million Dollar Bike Ride!

The 2020 Million Dollar Bike Ride will include two participant levels for Rare Disease Teams:
Grant Match Fundraising Team: Teams must raise a minimum of $20k to receive a dollar for dollar match to be used for a 1-year pilot grant. The ODC will match up to a maximum of $30k, but your team can raise beyond this maximum to fund your pilot grant. Team must include a total of 10 participants, including cyclists and volunteers.

Eligibility for Grant Match Fundraising Teams' future participation for the Million Dollar Bike Ride will be determined by the following factors. Please note, these guidelines are subject to change:

Performance: The 25 top performing teams in the 2020 MDBR will be automatically grandfathered into the 2021 MDBR. Performance is based on a) number of dollars raised and b) number of participating cyclists. Teams will be ranked by these two factors, and the top 25 will automatically receive a spot in the 2021 event.

Pool: Additional teams will be entered into a pool and chosen at our discretion. This pool could include both new teams and existing teams that did not make the cut, and will be based on available funding.

Registration: there are two ways to participate in this event. All will be required to sign a liability waiver. Anyone 16 YO or older can participate as a cyclist.

Registration only: One can realize full benefits of riding in the event by paying a registration fee without a commitment to raise additional money:

$60 before March 31, 2020
$80 from April 1, 2020 - June 5, 2020
$100 day of event

Registration with fundraising: registration is $25 and requires a minimum fundraising commitment of $250. It is expected that the minimum is met by June 13, 2020.

*No matter which option you chose, make sure to choose Team Castleman as your team so that your efforts and fundraising are linked to the CDCN.

2020 Million Dollar Bike Ride Event Policies:

Affiliation with Disease-Focused Teams: At the time of registration, each person will be asked to affiliate with a Disease-Focused Team based on a drop-down menu of registered Teams. If a person does not wish to affiliate with a specific team, they can register as a "Rare Rider" who is unaffiliated with any particular disease team. The money raised by the Rare Riders will be split amongst disease teams.

*100% of registration and fundraising money will go to the Disease Team's research fund.

Jerseys and T-Shirts
Event Jersey: Each cyclist who registers and commits to fundraising will receive a complimentary professional-style cycling jersey designed to commemorate the event. IF you register before March 23rd (date approximate) you are guaranteed to receive the sized-jersey you select during registration. For those who register after this date, a jersey in your size will be available after the event.

Event T-Shirt: Each registered cyclist will receive a complimentary event t-shirt. Preferred size is guaranteed for all who register prior to April 27th (date approximate).

Registered Disease Teams (Grant Match Fundraising Teams and Independent Fundraising Teams):

~Team Captain: the individual who is responsible for working with event staff to recruit cyclists and volunteers to support their team. This person will preferably ride in the event, although not necessary. Team captains collaborate with representative from sponsoring Foundation to define scientific content of grant RFAs, if applicable.

~Representative of affiliated Foundation: this person should have the authority to represent the affiliated Foundation in all matters of the collaboration. This person can also serve as Team Captain. An important aspect of this position is to work with the Team Captain to define the research focus of your team's RFA, if applicable.

Award: Final decisions will be made by December 14, 2020 (date approximate) with funding to commence February 1, 2021.

PLEASE NOTE: If a Grant Match Fundraising Team raises less than $20,000, they are not eligible for the match, and thus the total funds raised will be directed back to the Orphan Disease Center.
