Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence
Biomedical Graduate Studies (BGS) at the University of Pennsylvania is home to over 1,100 PhD students pursuing research at the forefront of the biomedical sciences. Organized into seven interdisciplinary graduate groups, BGS provides collaborative, broad-based training that allows students to explore and chart their own groundbreaking paths as researchers.

Recent cuts and uncertainty around NIH funding have led to a significant reduction in BGS's incoming class. This means fewer promising scientists can access the kind of rigorous, high-impact training that prepares them to lead in academia, industry, biotech, and pharma. This loss impacts the pace of discovery, the strength of our research enterprise, and Penn's ability to lead in biomedical innovation and education.
Your Gift Makes a Difference
Philanthropic support from our community of forward-thinking donors is essential to ensuring Penn's biomedical students receive a world-class education. Your generosity helps bridge gaps that may arise from shifts in external funding, providing the resources, training, and opportunities necessary to prepare the next generation of biomedical leaders. Your investment ensures that aspiring scientists can train at the highest level, and that society benefits from the life-changing research they conduct now and in the future.
As we celebrate 40 years of BGS excellence, your engagement means more than a gift, it's a way to connect with the next generation of biomedical leaders. Whether your support is large or small, it affirms our community's shared mission. Donation messages
I am donating as a show of gratitude for all that Penn BGS did for me. The opportunities I was afforded serving in various leadership roles on the EE Just admin board, training in the laboratories of Drs. Benoit Giasson, Kelly Jordan-Sciutto, Edward Brodkin, Harry Ischiropoulos, Virginia Lee, and others, sitting under the instruction of the awesome faculty in the Neuroscience Graduate Group, and receiving resources that funded my entire graduate education put me on a trajectory of success that I never could've imagined at the time. Penn is a wonderful place for student training, and I will always sing its praises. Happy 40th Anniversary BGS! --Dr. Chenere P. Ramsey
Proud of all the department is doing to advance biomedical science! --Cara Bertozzi, PhD
Sincere thanks and gratitude for the excellent education and training --Kate Palozola
