Supporting Muslim students on campus
Muslim Life at Penn provides resources to support the Penn Muslim community, including a full-time Muslim Chaplain on campus. The Muslim Chaplain provides a constant presence on campus that students and the larger Penn community know they can reach out to. The Chaplain offers spiritual and educational programing that provides regular opportunities for students to find support for their spiritual and religious life. The Muslim Chaplain further serves as a resource that can be called upon to support students and to provide insights into the needs, faith and practice of Muslims on campus.
Regular Programming
The Muslim Life Program offers weekly programing in addition to periodic special events that provide a variety of opportunities for students to connect with their faith according to their interests and busy schedules. Weekly programming includes study circles and Qur'an recitation. Periodic events provide opportunities for students to benefit and interact with scholars and religious leaders
The Muslim Life chaplain is regularly part of the interfaith community on Penn and contributes to multiple forums related to religious life on campus.
A Home for for Muslim Life on Campus
In 2018 Muslim Life found a new home on campus with the Christian Association. The third floor of this space now houses the office of the Muslim Chaplain where students can come for counseling and meetings. The meditation space on the same floor is available for prayer daily. Adjacent to the meditation room is a library where students study and hold MSA board and other meetings. The house also includes a variety of shared spaces for our student use including the living room, dining room, kitchen, classroom and work space.
The Muslim Life Chaplain Role
The Muslim Chaplain is a key part of building a vibrant Muslim Life Program at Penn. The Muslim Chaplain has a dual role of implementing the Muslim Life Program on campus and longer term institutional development of the platform. Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Vision
  • Counseling
  • Program Direction
  • Community Relations
  • Leadership
  • Mentorship
  • Teaching
  • Student advocacy
