Muslim Life Program 2018

Chaplain with graduates and their families
Supporting Muslim students on campus
Muslim Life at Penn is a new initiative established in 2017, through the coordination of students and alumni providing a full-time Muslim chaplain on campus. The new chaplain has become a constant presence on campus that students and the larger Penn community know they can reach out to. The chaplain offers spiritual and educational programing that provides regular opportunities for students to find support for their spiritual and religious life. The Muslim Chaplain further serves as a resource that can be called upon to support students and to provide insights into the needs, faith and practice of Muslims on campus. This current fundraising goal seeks to solidify the full-time position from January 2018 through the 2018-2019 academic year.
Regular Programming
Within the first year, the Muslim Life Program has established weekly and monthly programing that provide a variety of opportunities for students to connect with their faith according to their interests and busy schedules. Weekly programming includes study circles and Qur'an recitation. Monthly events provide opportunities for students to benefit and interact with scholars and religious leaders.

The Muslim Life chaplain is regularly part of the interfaith community on Penn and contributes to multiple forums related to religious life on campus. Regularly participating in the Spiritual and Religious Life Center programs, the Muslim chaplain is a contributing voice to the Penn Soul podcast series.
Student Testimonials Regarding the Muslim Chaplain
"Having a chaplain has made a significant difference on Penn's campus. Her presence adds a comforting, guiding adult figure at a place where we feel like we're expected to already have that on lock. Patty embodies the generic traits of being kind, warm, and caring. However, her extensive Islamic knowledge and experiences had made her a token of a chaplain, and if anything, has helped bring the Ummah on this campus closer together!"

"Patty's ability to connect with and provide support to students has thoroughly impressed me."

"During her short time here, Patty has uplifted the Muslim community at Penn in so many ways, and her dedication to the MSA is truly unparalleled. From holding spiritually enriching weekly halaqas to meeting with students individually to using her expansive network to bring in engaging scholars, Patty has surpassed my expectations, and it's truly been a pleasure to work with her as well as learn from her thoughtful insights and knowledge. Patty clearly has a strong vision for the Muslim community at Penn, and I'm excited to see how she will continue to funnel her passion and skill set toward unifying and strengthening our community!"

  • Student advocacy
Donation messages
All I can donate for now but I must say that Patty and the MLP are one of the best things to happen to Penn MSA. She is perhaps the most needed community member on campus and is working to take Muslim Life at Penn to the complete, holistic system it needs to be. --Anonymous
