Parberry Choral Scholars Fund
Honoring Bill Parberry

In honor of his upcoming retirement in 2018, William Parberry's Choral Singers have started The Parberry Choral Scholars Fund that will provide financial support to future Penn music majors and choral scholars.

Bill has directed the University of Pennsylvania Choral Society and Choir since 1973. Through its long history the Penn choruses have performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and the Opera Society Orchestra of New York. While the University Choir performs exclusively Classical music on campus, they were chosen to perform with two major popular performing artists - Michael Crawford (The Phantom of the Opera) in his tour of the United States in 1998 - and Barbra Streisand, in the final concert of her career at Madison Square Garden in 2000. As co-director of Early Music at Penn, Bill also conducts Ancient Voices, one of the premier vocal ensembles in Philadelphia.

Bill is an outstanding musician, but more importantly, he has been a great friend. We are honored to be able to contribute to this scholarship and keep Bill's passion for musical performance alive for future students. --Elaine Allard, Joshua Evans, and family
I sang with Bill from 1973 (my freshman year) through 1980, when I graduated Penn Medical School. 8 years with the same conductor! Was I spoiled? We sang such great choral music. I now sing with the Glendale College Concert Singers in Glendale California, just finished my 20th year and it is a good mixture of students and community singers. My brother Joe, who was a music major at Penn, also sang with Bill in the 70s-80s. In fact we both sang for some time together as we overlapped in school. Congratulations on a well deserved retirement, Bill. You taught us so much about choral music and made a big impact in our lives!! Best wishes from Cindy and Joe Baker --Cindy and Joe Baker
So many great memories singing with Penn! Best of luck in your next adventure. --Jane Borns
I knew and sang with Bill way back when (1973-75). Having retired myself, I honor this important milestone of Bill's. Best wishes and best regards. --Mr. Robert Schaevitz
I was only able to sing with Mr. Parberry for one semester (Fall 1974) because of scheduling conflicts. We sang at Interational House - Shubert's Mass In G, Lobet Den Herr(?) and some Ives piece written in two keys. One of my daughter's classmates from Class 0f 2007 also sang for him - a testament to his longevity. Good luck and good health to you, Bill! --Tom Derise WG'76 GEE'76 P'07
