2019 Philadelphia Oral Cancer Walk & 5K

Oral cancer takes 1 life every hour, every day.

Oral cancer awareness and education has never been more important in saving these lives. The impact of sponsors and corporate loyalty is crucial in delivering that education to our at-risk community through our 11th annual 2019 Philadelphia Oral Cancer Walk & 5K.

As dental care providers, it is our responsibility to stand up for oral cancer by raising awareness, educating our community, and raising funds for research. Please join us by donating to the 2019 Philadelphia Oral Cancer Walk & 5K. This event is the only one of its kind in the Phialdelphia area and we need your help.

All proceeds not used to produce the event will be donated to the Penn Dental Oral Cancer Research Fund. This is a student-run event by the dedicated students at Penn Dental Medicine and Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.
FACTS:
*Oral cancers are the sixth most common cancers in the world. In the US, it is estimated that approximately 91,200 persons are living with oral cancer

*Current estimates suggest that approximately 48,250 new cases of oral or pharyngeal cancer will be diagnosed this year.

*One person dies from oral cancer every hour, 24 hours a day.

- Early detection is important. The 5-year survival rate for oral cancer diagnosed early is 75% compared to 20% for oral cancer diagnosed late.
EVENT DETAILS:
The Philadelphia Oral Cancer Walk & 5K is sponsored by a variety of national and local organizations. The event is completely student-run, relying on the hard work of students at both Penn Dental Medicine and the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. FREE Head & Neck screenings will be available to the community.

Following the race/walk, please join us for food, drinks and music. This year's Oral Cancer Walk & 5K includes the 5K run starting prior to the walk, and traveling through Penn Park, right here at University of Pennsylvania.
