Jerry Rabinowitz, C'73, M'77 Memorial Residency Scholarship

Remembering Jerry Rabinowitz, C'73, M'77
Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz was a victim in the massacre that occurred at the Tree of Life Synagogue building in Pittsburgh on October 27, 2018. He was a decades-long member and former president of Reconstructionist Congregation Dor Hadash; one of three congregations that shared worship space in the building. Dr. Rabinowitz was killed while rushing to care for the wounded. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and a beloved family physician. Dr. Rabinowitz's death should 'be a call for all of us to model his compassion and urgency to heal the world' (Rabbi Cheryl Klein). We need to tell his story every year, especially to young doctors, to ensure we rebuild our terribly unfortunate loss.
With the help of the family medicine residency program at the University of Pennsylvania, our donations will create the Jerry Rabinowitz C73 M77 Memorial Residency Scholarship - an endowed scholarship to be annually awarded to a 3rd year family medicine resident who embodies Dr. Rabinowitz's selfless devotion to patient care and community outreach. We hope this will be a meaningful tribute to a man who will be remembered for his boundless compassion and humanistic approach to his work as a physician.
