To the dear family and friends of Samantha Watson Monaghan:
On December 16, 2014, we lost Samantha, who had an undeniable spirit that touched the lives of all of us. Although she ultimately lost her battle to cancer, the disease did not define her. Samantha was so much more than the illness that she courageously fought with such beauty and grace. She was a daughter, a wife, and a beloved friend. We are asking everyone that she be remembered in those ways.
From her initial Stage 4 diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 23, Samantha sought treatment at the University of Pennsylvania's Rena Rowan Breast Center at the Abramson Cancer Center. It was here that she met much more than a team of doctors and nurses, but rather a second family that provided Samantha strength and comfort in her most trying times. Samantha's oncologist, Dr. Kevin Fox, and his team allowed Samantha to continually defy the odds and live much longer than most would have ever predicted.
For these reasons we are asking for a donation to the Rena Rowan Breast Center at the Abramson Cancer Center in honor of Samantha's memory. If enough funds are raised, the Center memorializes Samantha with a plaque in her name. We know this honor would mean so much to Samantha, Dan, and the entire Watson Family.
Ultimately, our hope is that women who seek treatment at the University of Pennsylvania will see Samantha's plaque, hear her story, and just like Samantha, show unimaginable feats of strength and courage throughout their own battles.
