Remembering Chris Cieri

Cancer is Relentless and so is the Abramson Cancer Center
Relentless
Chris Cieri was an internationally respected linguist. Loved by a wife and daughter he treasured above all else, he delighted in traveling the world, experiencing different cultures and making friends wherever he went. He enjoyed life and fought hard to keep it. Cancer didn't care. The Abramson Cancer center does care. Your contribution in Chris's memory will help to develop treatments to help others win the fight.

Like others, I count Chris among those few people you meet who have a profoundly positive impact on your life. How did he learn to be so calm, generous, modest, and even funny, in situations that bring out the opposite in some of us? I got to know Chris 30 years ago when we were PhD graduate students at Penn. For more than a decade, we inched our degrees toward completion together and enjoyed teasing each other about who would finish first. I looked up to Chris for his many talents but even more for how he treated me and other people. I already miss his generous and positive spirit. My heartfelt condolences to Mimi and Caitlin. --Mike and Amy Schultz
Those who, like us, have known Chris for work, can't help but remember how different he was from everyone else. There has never been in him the desire to appear but only to know, not only the discipline but also and above all the people who practiced that discipline. His presence touched the lives of many people, with the delicacy and authenticity that were so peculiar to him. You won't be forgotten, Chris. --Paola Baroni, Nicoletta Calzolari, Riccardo Del Gratta, Francesca Frontini, Sara Goggi, Monica Monachini, Simonetta Montemagni, Valeria Quochi, Claudia Soria (Colleagues from CNR-ILC Italy)
We are in shock and mourning over losing Chris, who contributed so much to our lives, and hope our gift will do as he wished: help someone else survive the cancer that took him too soon. Our heartfelt condolences to Mimi and Caitlin. Mark Liberman & Cynthia McLemore --Mark Liberman & Cynthia McLemore
Chris was not only a great leader and a smart and dedicated researcher, he was also a kind and thoughtful man. The world was better with Chris in it. --Tina Kohler
Condolences to Chris's family and friends --Richard Isaac
