Information on CMD's

Collagen VI Congenital Muscular Dystrophy is a rare disease causing muscle weakness at birth. Several defined genetic mutations cause muscles to break down faster than they can repair or grow. Some children never gain the ability to walk, while others lose the ability as they grow older. Affected individuals also may suffer from respiratory insufficiency, failure to thrive, contractures, and scoliosis. There is currently no treatment or cure. We are focusing Team Cure CMD's fundraising on Collagen VI CMD.

How important is the Million Dollar Bike Ride to a rare disease like CMD?

Each team who raises the minimum of $20,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $30,000 for research Penn's Center for Orphan Disease Research and Therapy!!!

With your help, in 2021 Cure CMD raised over $90,000 including the match by Penn ODC! We funded 2 Collagen VI research grants totaling over $90,000 to:

The Million Dollar Bike Ride is happening in Philadelphia in 2022! You can also ride virtually if you are not able to attend in person at no cost. All registration fees and donations goes to fund Collagen VI research and will be matched up to $30,000 by the Penn Medicine Orphan Disease Center when we reach the minimum of $20,000 raised!!
