Cure Angelman Syndrome.

On the brink of a cure!
Most people have never heard of Angelman syndrome (AS), but scientists believe that AS has the greatest potential for being cured when compared to other neurogenetic disorders.

Our sole mission is to cure Angelman syndrome. That's why FAST brought together a multi-disciplined team of more than two-dozen scientists from top research universities and pharmaceutical companies. These men and women are the nation's foremost authorities on Angelman syndrome and they have joined forces on a focused path to a cure.

Renowned gene therapy pioneer James M. Wilson, M.D., Ph.D., and his team from Penn Medicine's Orphan Disease Center, recently joined forces with FAST to develop a treatment for AS. Wilson was recognized as one of 12 leading pioneers in cell and gene research with the Pioneer Award given by Human Gene Therapy, a peer-reviewed journal of the medical research community.

Beloved FAST FIRE Angelman Syndrome Researcher Dr. Dave Segal is racing for research again! He ran the Great Wall of China for us, and now he's flying to Philadelphia for the Million Dollar Bike Ride for Orphan Diseases and riding an amazing 77 miles.

The impact!
A cure for Angelman syndrome will have a tremendous impact on society at large. The gene that causes Angelman syndrome has been linked to several other diseases and genetic disorders involving learning and memory. The work FAST researchers are doing may be the gateway to therapies for other disorders that affect the lives of millions.

There is a known correlation between Rett syndrome and Angelman syndrome. There is a known correlation between Fragile X syndrome and Angelman syndrome. There is a known correlation between ALS and Angelman syndrome. There is a genetic link between Angelman syndrome and autism. The AS protein UBE3A is decreased in Alzheimer's disease. Amyloid Precursor Protein is a target of UBE3A. Researchers understand the genetic cause of epilepsy for individuals with Angelman syndrome.

Because we know exactly what causes AS and it has already been cured in the laboratory, an investment in FAST is an investment of global proportion.
