The FH Foundation is a patient-centric nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness to of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) through education, advocacy, and research. Our mission is save lives by increasing the rate of diagnosis and encouraging proactive treatment of this life-threatening disease. If left untreated, FH can cause aggressive heart disease and premature heart attacks.
What is Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)?
Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) an inherited metabolic disorder which results in excessive levels of LDL-cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"). As opposed to general high cholesterol, FH is a genetic disease which exposes an individual to high levels of bad cholesterol from birth. If left untreated, it leads to heart disease, heart attacks, and even death at a very young age. This is why early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to those affected by this life-threatening disease.
