Alliance of Minority Physicians Fund

The Alliance of Minority Physicians (AMP) develops leaders in clinical, academic, and community medicine, through active recruitment, career development, mentorship, social opportunities and community outreach geared towards underrepresented faculty, housestaff, and medical students at the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and the Perelman School of Medicine. All donations will directly benefit AMP and help greatly in our efforts of improving diversity at all levels of our health system.
AMP History
In 2011, University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price released Penn's Action Plan for Faculty Diversity and Excellence. This landmark initiative sparked an unprecedented campus-wide effort to optimize diversity at Penn, redefining it as a critical pillar of an eminent institution. UPHS and CHOP leadership put forth a plan that highlighted the importance of developing a strong pipeline of outstanding underrepresented minorities (URM) from medical students to housestaff and onto junior and ultimately senior faculty positions. The creation of multidisciplinary mentorship experiences and dynamic social and professional networks centered at the resident and fellow level were seen as the core means of creating the rich URM community needed to truly support this effort. As a means of shaping, sustaining and growing a robust institutionalized system focused on the recruitment and retention of exceptional URM clinicians, educators and physician scientists at Penn medicine, the UPHS-CHOP Alliance of Minority Physicians (AMP) was born.
Support from our alumni and benefactors is critical to the success of AMP now and in the future, and we thank you for visiting our page. All donations directly benefit AMP programs and initiatives.
Here are some of the programs you are supporting when you donate to AMP:
  • Attendance at SNMA and LMSA Regional and National Conferences
  • Recruitment programs for competitive URM residents and fellows at UPHS and CHOP
  • Professional development seminars such as "Introduction to Academic Medicine" and "Navigating the Job Market"
  • New Housestaff Welcome Reception
  • "Mentoring Family" gatherings of students, housestaff, and faculty
  • Grant writing and CV preparation
  • Resident Graduation Gala at the end of each year

Donation messages
In honor of the graduates of CHOP's Academic General Pediatrics Fellowship. Congratulations! --Academic General Pediatrics Fellowship (CHOP)
Mentoring Families has been a wonderful experience to me. However, as a newcomer to the Penn family, I did not know about the Alliance of Minority Physicians until I saw a video clip of your promotional video highlighting Dr. Abass Noor, one of our outstanding PGY5 Penn Radiology trainees. My donation is just a small token of appreciation for all the work that AMP does to advance diversity, equity, representation and inclusion in our health care system. --Jenny Bencardino MD
